Former WWE Champion Returning to the Ring at AEW Full Gear

AEW has plans for a big name on a big show to make a return to in-ring action at Full Gear later this month.

AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF vs. Jay White, AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm, Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne vs. Sting, Darby Allin & TBA, and ROH Tag Team Champion MJF & a mystery partner vs. The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn) are the only matches confirmed for the show thus far.

Chris Jericho has been feuding with Powerhouse Hobbs as of late, with a recent sit-down interview seeing him address Hobbs’ dominant win against him on Dynamite. He stated that while Hobbs is big, he knows someone bigger, indicating he has some backup.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that the working plan was for Paul Wight, aka The Big Show, to “return to work some sort of match at AEW Full Gear.” AEW did discuss using Wight in a match at All In at one point involving Satnam Singh, but that didn’t end up happening.

Wight shocked a lot of people when he left WWE after being with the company for 20 years and joined AEW in February 2021, where he wrestled a few matches and worked as an announcer.

Since signing with the promotion, he’s only worked four matches, with three of them happening on Dark Elevation. His last match was in March 2022. Jericho has gone on record by saying teaming with Big Show in WWE as Jeri-Show was a career highlight for him and his favorite tag team partner.
