Athena says free agent ex-WWE star is someone that she needs to have a match with

During her interview on “The Sessions with Renee Paquette,” ROH Women’s World Champion Athena talked about Trinity (Naomi) showing up for her ROH PPV match at Supercard of Honor:

“I love Trin, first off. Trin and I didn’t get to have a lot of interactions in WWE. I remember the first Money in the Bank, when we all found out we were in the Money in the Bank, we kind of paired up and we’re like, ‘Hey girl, what are we doing?’ Then like, in the Rumble, like, it’s just weird. Any type of multi-person situation, me and Trin always found each other, like the Rumble and the Women’s Battle Royal for the Mania show. We always just kind of found each other, but we never got to complete anything that we started. So for her to come out, and, like, after I got released, she stayed in touch, which is very important to me. We talk almost every day. We send each other terrible, funny Instagram videos. It’s someone that like I built a relationship as a sister once I left, and I and I appreciate her so much. When we both found out we were in town we’re like, ‘We got to see each other. We got to see each other’, and I go, ‘Hey girl, why don’t you come and watch the show?’ I thought she was gonna stay in the back and she goes, ‘Girl, I’m not staying in the back. I’m going front row. You know who I am?’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ It was really funny because like, I was so happy to see her and stuff like that. I remember being post match, I raised the belt up, I looked at Trin and she’s mean mugging me. I was like, hold up. What’s this? It’s funny, because I genuinely love her. I think she’s extremely talented. She got the short end of the stick and everything. She’s one of those people that I need that match with. I don’t care if it’s for an indie show. It’s a cool moment to be able to get one step closer to what hopefully will be a dream match in my future. I want the best for her at the end of the day. It doesn’t matter if she comes after my Ring of Honor championship or not. I want the best for her. I want her to be happy whether she comes to Ring of Honor or goes elsewhere in the world. I just want her to be happy and thrive wherever she goes.”

Athena said she didn’t know if she wanted to continue wrestling after being released by WWE:

“In WWE, you have a lot of cooks in the kitchen, for lack of a better explanation. You always have someone say, ‘Oh, I think you should do this. Oh, I think you should do that.’ So when I left WWE, there was this weird void that I felt like there was no pressure. That was the very first thing. I remember the phone call happened. I was like, ‘Ah, thank God.’ I just remember sitting back and I finished Far Cry 6, finished the final level of that like to be eight extra hours to do that, and then it finally dawned on me. ‘Oh, crap, What am I gonna do?’ We just bought this house, and it was like, okay, I didn’t know if I wanted to wrestle anymore to be honest with you. I was just sitting there, like, oh, boy, I gotta wrestle because that’s the only thing I’m good at. I never got that whole degree thing.”
