CM Punk wants to make a return to AEW

The belief is that there is a split in AEW regarding the topic of CM Punk and his potential return to the promotion following his rant where he ripped several stars at the All Out presser last year before he got into a fight with The Elite backstage.

Punk is expected to be medically cleared after being injured in the All Out main event with a torn triceps that resulted in him getting surgery. There are several people in AEW who are friends of Punk and would like to see him return, while others are seemingly against him returning.

As previously noted, The Young Bucks were attacked shortly before AEW Dynamite went on the air. They were taken out in an ambulance and Hangman Adam Page went with them. During the angle, fans noticed they had covered Punk’s face on the production truck.

At one point, it was reported that Punk wanted the promotion to buy out his contract and the two sides went their separate ways. However, Punk may have indicated on Instagram that he wants to return.

He noted that he was reading Steve Keirn’s book, which tells the story that Jerry Lawler brought Keirn and Koko B. Ware returned to the Memphis promotion after they got into a backstage fight.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Punk wants to return to AEW after recovering from his injury.

“He brought up when Steve Kerin was in Memphis, he got into a fight with Koko Ware and he said that Lawler sat them down and that was it. It appears that he was trying to say that in wrestling in the past there’s fights. That situation was completely different…”

Meltzer thinks Keirn threw a punch and Ware blocked it and it was over in seconds.

“What it says is that he wants back in. Which we’ve already known, other people have said that too, that he’s looking to get back in. It’s up to Tony (Khan) and Tony’s gonna make a decision at some point. He’s probably just about ready, if not ready already, from the torn triceps, so it is one of those things that he can do soon enough. It’s a tough decision,” Meltzer stated.

Meltzer added, “Every situation is different and it’s a decision that Tony’s going to have to make, but people who are like you want him back.”
