Former AEW Champion is expected to return soon

AEW is expected to get back a notable name soon as Riho will be returning to television.

Riho was the first-ever Women’s Champion in the promotion’s history when she beat Nyla Rose on October 2, 2019, on the premiere edition of AEW Dynamite. Her reign lasted 133 days before dropping the title to Rose in February 2020.

Riho’s last AEW match happened during a Dark: Elevation taping in November, where she worked a tag team match by teaming with Willow Nightingale to face off against Emi Sakura & Mei Suruga. It aired on November 14. She worked an SPW show a few days later and hasn’t competed since then.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “regarding Riho, she can be back as early as next week or soon thereafter.”

Meltzer speculated that they could use her for a feud with Athena in ROH or perhaps be the next challenger for AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill.
