Top free agent expects to talk with AEW

Kota Ibushi is on the free agent market after departing from NJPW on February 1st.

He’s been sidelined for over a year due to a shoulder injury, but he’s ready to restart his wrestling career.

He already has bookings lined up as he will take part in Bloodsport and Spring Break events over WrestleMania Weekend for GCW.

While speaking with Dark Puroresu Flowsion, Kota discussed his future in wrestling. Regarding money, he thinks it’s unnecessary and he only cares about what’s important to him. He also doesn’t want to be in a match without meaning.

After he became a free agent, AEW is a place that makes sense for him to go if he wanted to work for a top promotion. He hopes to open a wrestling school and then he plans to speak with AEW.

“[A] lot of my best friends are in AEW. My younger peers in Japan are also growing up [there]. Nonetheless, I don’t think of going to AEW immediately. I want to have a ‘school’ in Japan. Once that’s been worked out, I think I’ll talk with AEW.”

AEW President Tony Khan discussed possibly being interested in Ibushi.

While with NJPW, he was a one-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, one-time IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, two-time Intercontinental Champion, one-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and three-time Junior Heavyweight Champion. He also won the G1 Climax in 2019 and 2020.
