London Mayor Pledges To Campaign For First WWE WrestleMania In The City

Fans have called for WWE to hold WrestleMania, its biggest event of the year, in the UK due to a rabid fanbase for several years now.

WWE was most recently in the UK for a PLE for its Money in the Bank show at the 02 Arena. Before then, the last WWE pay-per-view event to be held in the country came in 1992 for SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium.

At Money in the Bank, John Cena did a segment with Grayson Waller where Cena laid out the young star with an AA. During the segment, Cena continuously noted he wanted to bring WrestleMania to London, UK.

In recent years, WWE has gone with the idea of having cities bid on big events, including WrestleMania, due to the local economic boost that WWE events bring to the cities. The company is also looking to expand internationally with the idea of most PLEs taking place overseas while their bigger events will remain stateside.

According to MyLondon, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has pledged to campaign to have the city host WrestleMania should he be reelected.

“If I’m re-elected on 2 May, I’m determined to go even further and fully cement London’s reputation as the undisputed sports capital of the world. I believe that London has the potential to host the first international WrestleMania.”

The date and location for next year’s WrestleMania has yet to be determined.
