AEW World Heavyweight Champion Samoa Joe vs. Swerve Strickland took place at the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view event from the Chaifetz Arena in St Louis, MO.
Strickland went right after him. Strickland went for an outside dive, but Joe caught him and hit a powerslam on the announce table. After ripping up the protective padding, Strickland caught Joe with an outside dive. Joe with a powerslam to Strickland on the exposed concrete. Joe beat Strickland for a few minutes before Strickland fired up and fought back. Strickland targeted the left arm of Joe. Joe got out of an armbar with a powerbomb and hit a muscle buster for 2. Joe grabbed his title and was walking out, but Strickland knocked him down then hit a 450 splash followed by a double foot stomp for 2. Joe put him in the rear-naked choke, but Strickland got out of it by binding the thumb. Strickland with the house call for 2. Strickland with a powerbomb off the middle rope then a double foot stomp for the win.
