Intercontinental Champion Gunther vs. Sami Zayn took place at the WWE WrestleMania XL premium live event from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gunther had held the title for over 600 days entering the bout.
Zayn went right after him and hit a few suplexes before Gunther cut him off with a clothesline. Zayn with clubbing shots only for Gunther to reverse and put him in a sleeper. Zayn caught him with the big boot in the corner for 2 as his wife watched on from ringside. Gunther with a big clothesline to Zayn then a series of powerbombs. Gunther put the boots to Zayn in front of Zayn’s family. Gunther with a splash off the top rope while he taunted Zayn’s wife. Zayn caught him with a big boot then a brain buster on the top rope on top of the turnbuckle and then another boot then a second one for the win.
