Will Ospreay Issues Statement On NJPW Departure

Will Ospreay is AEW-bound as he finishes up with New Japan Pro Wrestling with his last match in the can. This is months after he decided to make one of the biggest decisions of his life, which was to leave the Japan promotion this year by joining AEW.

The decision

The top star had interest from plenty of promotions expected to bid for his services, including WWE, AEW, and TNA. He opted to sign with AEW. An announcement was made official at Full Gear in November, with him starting full-time at AEW Revolution.

TNA was very much in the running to land Ospreay, and the promotion made him a “massive offer,” likely the largest offer to one person since Anthem took over ownership of the company.

Goodbye

At NJPW New Beginning in Osaka on Sunday, Will Ospreay finished up with NJPW as The War Dogs beat United Empire squared off in a WarGames match.

Ospreay wrote on Twitter following the show today, “Thank you, New Japan Pro Wrestling. I’m really going to miss you guys. I love you all so much.”

Because of the working relationship between NJPW and AEW, it’s likely Ospreay will make a return to Japan in the near future for more matches.
