Vince McMahon Was Advised by Ari Emanuel and Mark Shapiro to Resign for TKO’s Best Interest

It’s been less than two weeks since Vince McMahon announced his resignation as TKO Executive Chairman and from the TKO Board of Directors, coming after former employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against McMahon, WWE, and former executive John Laurinaitis the day before on January 25th.

Allegations

The lawsuit accused McMahon of sex trafficking, emotional abuse, and sexual assault, leading to mainstream coverage just days after WWE announced The Rock had joined the TKO Board of Directors and Raw would be moving to Netflix in 2025.

Slim Jim had paused its promotional partnership with WWE ahead of WWE Royal Rumble following the suit but agreed to sponsor the show after McMahon walked away.

Meeting

The Hollywood Reporter reported today that TKO CEO Ari Emanuel and TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro called McMahon to tell him it would be in the company’s best interest for him to resign in the wake of the allegations.

While he agreed to do so, he denied the allegations against him. McMahon remains under federal investigation in addition to the suit.
