WWE NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov vs. Trick Williams headlined Sunday’s WWE NXT Vengeance Day premium live event from the F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, TN, but fans were talking about the show-closing angle.
The angle
Post-match, Carmelo Hayes turned on Williams by attacking him with a chair several times. This was after they had worked a match earlier in the night.
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals with Hayes & Williams vs. Bron Breakker & Baron Corbin opened the show with the heels going over to win the tournament that was started in 2015. As previously reported, several stars were banged up following the event. For more on that, click here.
Secrecy
Corey Brennan of Fightful Select reported that “there was a lot of secrecy surrounding the main event aftermath, as rehearsals for the main event were kept to those who were directly involved in putting it together.”
Also, Dragunov was said to be okay after his nasty bump. Also, head of NXT creative Shawn Michaels and Performance Center head coach Matt Bloom were said to have praised the main event.
