Two big matches are on tap for the upcoming NJPW Windy City Riot in Chicago on April 12, including the promotional debut of a former WWE star.
Announcements
The notable matches were made official for the show at Saturday’s NJPW Battle in the Valley, starting with a bout that involves AEW’s Jon Moxley, who beat Shingo Takagi in a no DQ match at Saturday’s NJPW show and, after the match, challenged the current IWGP World Champion Tetsuya Naito to a match at Windy City Riot.
Moxley said that he has only one thing on his mind for wrestling in 2024: Naito. This comes after Naito defeated SANADA to win the IWGP title at Wrestle Kingdom 18 in Tokyo Dome on January 4, and he is slated to defend the title for the first time against SANADA at The New Beginning in Sapporo on Saturday, February 24.
The debut
The bigger match confirmed will see former WWE star Mustafa Ali make his NJPW debut at this show after issuing a challenge to Hiromu Takahashi during Saturday’s event. A video package aired where he issued the challenge, and NJPW later confirmed that the match was official.
Ali did a similar video package to his world tour campaign where he is a politician character. Check it out below:
