Greg Gagne: ‘I’m not a big fan of AEW. The ring performances, I mean, they’re different. They’re crude’

The first episode of Magnum TA and Greg Gagne’s YouTube show is up now. The two legends told wrestling stories from their career and they gave their thoughts on some of the current wrestling talent.

Greg Gagne’s thoughts on AEW:

“I’m not a big fan of AEW. The ring performances, I mean, they’re different. They’re crude. I want to stay away from, you know, I turn them on and I hear them swearing. You still have kids that watch this thing and their idols are on TV. So you know, be a little more professional. You don’t need to do that to get yourself established. If you’re a good talker, you can express yourself and express how your real feelings are towards your opponent. That’s what generates people to watch. I saw it a couple weeks ago and I haven’t turned it on since. I mean, I hate to bash them because you need that competition, but I think they need somebody in there strong that can kind of iron out those little things and make it more professional.”

Magnum TA on AEW:

“Wrestling has always been like somebody trying to get out there on the edge of what culture is wanting. It’s obvious that the AEW product is going more at a teen’s type 18 to 25 or 35 type demographic. If you watch some of the things that are on television today that are on network television and the things that they show, the graphic things, the language they say, it’s not PG friendly. I almost see these guys kind of wanting to be like that. They’re not the Attitude Era because they’re not, you know, just pushing the sex stuff and the things that, you know, that Vince did back in the day, but they’re like Yellowstone. Yellowstone was like the icon of shows, but the language and the content was definitely geared for adults, and so, to Greg’s point, we come from a place where you take your kids. The kids got excited about the characters, and then the parents came and it spun everybody together. I’ve got teenage kids, believe it or not, you know, this old gray man here, but you know, I’m not letting them drop F bombs and act out in such a way as this edgy kind of programming is doing. I think that’s kind of blurring the lines and I think it’s probably something people at TBS and some of the big corporate people with big backing are watching very, very closely.”
