WWE keeping quiet about possible match between The Rock and Roman Reigns

Coming out of WWE Monday Night Raw, everyone was talking about the possible match between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Roman Reigns, with the speculation that it would take place at WrestleMania 40. However, there are some other options on the table should WWE want to go in a different direction.

The segment

The Rock made a surprise appearance to do a segment with Jinder Mahal. After laying him out, Rock ended the segment by asking the fans in attendance whether he should sit at the bar, at a booth, or at the head of the table when going to dinner that night, a reference to the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Although not confirmed, it’s believed this was the tipping-off point for the long-talked-about match between them. The match was discussed for WrestleMania 38 in 2022 before it was decided the following year at WrestleMania 39 in LA would be better, and that match was delayed.

The latest

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that nothing is official as of now.

Meltzer wrote, “Everyone is tight-lipped completely past Johnson would not have said what he did at the time he did without the plan being to build to such a match.”

Meltzer pointed out that while Mania is the obvious place to do the bout, it could be at the Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia, on February 24th since there is a story that “the government there specifically requested Johnson” on the show. It could also be at the next show in Saudi Arabia before Mania since Saudi pays so much money anyway.

It is also possible that Reigns could face Rock and Rhodes on different nights at WrestleMania 40 since Reigns vs. Rhodes was believed to be happening before Rock’s return.
