AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF was part of the cast of “The Iron Claw,” a film that was released last week and is about the Von Erich family.
The movie
The drama was financed and produced by A24, while Sean Durkin, who wrote the script, directed it. Jeremy Allen White, Zac Efron, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James made up the rest of the cast.
The family was iconic in Texas, and while they had a ton of success in wrestling, they also experienced the lowest of the lows. MJF played Lance Von Erich in the movie. Lance was a Kayfabe member of the family who was later exposed. MJF only makes a brief appearance in the theatrical version of the film.
Reduced role
While speaking with Liam Crowley for ComicBook.com, MJF discussed why one of his scenes got cut. He noted that there is an extended scene in the movie that he also executive produced.
“There most certainly is [an extended scene]. I don’t know where it’s going to live. There was a scene where me and him were talking, but me and Sean both completely understood that listen, I want this film to succeed, and the film needed to be about the brothers. As fun as I had shooting that scene, realistically, it didn’t add to the overarching story and the importance of the story between the brothers and what they were going through in dealing with the pressures that their father put on them. It didn’t fit in the pieces of the puzzle.”
MJF continued by noting that everything Durkin filmed was fantastic and agreed with Durkin’s decisions. He thought the movie was a masterpiece.
