AEW star is done with the company

As AEW heads into 2024 and looks to regain some of the momentum it had in 2022, it will do so without one notable name both on screen and behind the scenes.

Tenure

QT Marshall previously announced he would be leaving All Elite Wrestling, but planned to finish out the year with the promotion before resigning from his position in the company as Vice President of creative and talent.

As previously reported, Marshall was frustrated with his role in the company as he believed he could become a star rather than just be a player/coach and wanted to wrestle more often.

There were also issues with the product and Marshall’s beliefs about what it should be, as he believed it should have a more entertainment-based approach to wrestling TV, and he leans on the characters/entertainment approach because he can contribute on screen in that regard rather than Tony Khan’s belief that great wrestling matches tell the storylines.

There was also the situation where CM Punk reportedly didn’t want Marshall to be a part of Collision and didn’t see QTV as a productive part of Powerhouse Hobbs’ presentation. The segments got nixed, something Khan took the blame for. This was said to have damaged their relationship, as Marshall felt that there was a lack of transparency as to why the segments were nixed. Marshall was well-liked by those in AEW.

The future

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that they were told he’s effectively already finished up with the company and hasn’t been at shows in weeks. Marshall does have outside interest.

It was added that they were told there are at least some plans that include the Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling trademark that was recently filed for.
