Ahmed Johnson Says Shawn Michaels Derailed Plans for Him to Win WWE World Title

In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall interviewed former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson. During the interview, Johnson talked about how he was signed by WWE and the call he got from Vince McMahon, his run in WWE and why plans for him to win the World Title were derailed, his issues with Ron Simmons, the Nation of Domination, Shawn Michaels and The Kliq, why his run in WWE ended, WCW, issues with Booker T and what Hulk Hogan said to him in WCW. Scroll down to watch the entire interview.

Ahmed Johnson on if he stole Legion of Doom’s shoulder pads at WWE WrestleMania 13:

“No, that is not true. Hawk gave me the shoulder pads, okay. Second of all, if anybody knows the Road Warriors, if you think you’re gonna take something from them and not get your ass kicked, that’s a different ballgame. But you see, there’s never no heat about it or nothing mentioned about it until after I left. But no, I was given the shoulder pads.”

Ahmed Johnson on Shawn Michaels allegedly ruining his world title plans:

“I believe Vince had a change of mind. All the junk that Shawn Michaels and some of the other boys put in his (Vince’s) head, you know, ‘They’re not ready for a black champion’, but you’re just seen me win the Intercontinental belt, so you know I’m ready. You know the fans are already. But Shawn Michaels man, he kind of ran the coop back then. He was like the head dog back then, so whatever he says, you know, kind of went. I remember him calling me to the office one day after maybe my third match, and he tells me, ‘Ahmed, I can’t let you do them high flying moves anymore’. I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ You ain’t let me do nothing first of all. I’ll do it if I want to do it.’ He said, ‘Well, what happens is when I do it at 190 pounds and you come do it at 355 pounds, it doesn’t look as great when I do it.’”

Ahmed Johnson on rumors he’s was injury prone and hard to work with:

“If that was the case, why when I was in WCW I never had one complaint about hitting too hard? I never had one complaint about not being sociable in a locker room. Not one. You call any WCW guy and they will tell you, ‘He wasn’t like that.’ When I was there (WWF) I never heard any of this. It’s when I left that all kinds of rumors start coming out. ‘Ahmad Johnson was difficult to work or he’s mean. He doesn’t get along with the boys.’ It wasn’t that. I had my own lifestyle, my own vision, and I was working towards that.”
