In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall interviewed the lead singer of The Smashing Pumpkins and NWA owner Billy Corgan. Corgan will be putting on an event called “HP Cares for Cooper” on July 8 in Highland Park, IL. The event will benefit an 8-year-old boy named Cooper Roberts, who was shot during the devastating mass shooting at the Fourth of July parade at Highland Park last year. Seven people were killed and Cooper has been going through intense physical rehab and multiple surgeries. Admission to the show is free but if you make a minimum donation of $75 then you will get VIP seats in the first or second rows. The charity event is scheduled for July 8 and the NWA will hold a TV taping there on July 9. Visit NWATix.com for more information.
Corgan on playing himself on The Simpsons HomerPalooza episode:
“It’s considered the number one episode of all time by the Simpsons. We were contacted and they said they’re going to do this episode called HomerPalooza. Peter Frampton was in it, Sonic Youth was in it, and then we were going to be another band on this bill. It sounded cool. They sent us the script, the script was fine, and then you just go into a studio with the producers and they have you read. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to work with any of the other voice talents. We just read our lines on our own. It’s pretty simple. You say a line and they say, ‘Can you say it a little faster?’ ‘Sure.’ ‘Can you say it a little with a little bit more intensity?’ ‘Sure.’ ‘Say with a little more sadness in your voice.’ ‘Okay.’ ‘Okay, great.’ Move on and you just do it line by line like that.”
“So good fun and it’s crazy how it’s endured. I never would have guessed it would have been something that people would still talk about, but it’s definitely one of those cool things.”
Billy Corgan on Hulk Hogan supporting the NWA:
“I’ve met Hulk a couple times. He’s always been very nice and very complimentary behind the scenes to what I’m doing with the NWA. He has let people know that he watches and he supports the vision of what we’re after, so that means a lot to us. I’ve literally just met him in passing a couple of times. He’s always been a total gentleman.”
