As was noted earlier on Fightful Select, there were changes made to this year’s WWE Royal Rumble PLE as the planned Ronda Rousey vs. Raquel Rodriguez match was pulled from the show and bumped to SmackDown a few weeks early.
WrestlingNews.co was told that as of last month, there were plans for Edge to wrestle Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell match at the Rumble. Obviously, those plans were scrapped. We don’t know why the match was scrapped from the show but a source stated that there were also plans to bring Beth Phoenix back.
Beth is scheduled to be at the Rumble but WWE sources have not indicated if she will be in the Women’s Rumble match or if she’ll just be backstage. There has been talk about Beth wrestling again. As of last month, there were plans penciled in for Beth Phoenix and Edge to team up against Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley for a Mixed Tag Team Match at the Elimination Chamber show in Montreal.
Given how much things have changed in recent weeks, it’s not guaranteed that the Mixed Tag Match will happen next month but we should know more soon in the next few days if they are still going in that direction.
