William Regal is returning to WWE after the new year when his contract with AEW expires this month, where he will be working in a backstage role.
Regal turned on Jon Moxley by costing him the AEW World Heavyweight Title by aiding MJF at AEW Full Gear, only for MJF to attack him.
During the ROH Final Battle media scrum, AEW/ROH President Tony Khan addressed Regal’s departure from the promotion, revealing that Regal asked for the company not to renew his deal so he could return to WWE to be in NXT with his son, who wrestles as Charles Dempsey.
Pwinsider.com reported today that Regal has come to terms with WWE and will officially start the first week of January. It was added that Regal will have a Vice President position.
Before Regal was let go this past January, he worked as the NXT GM and a scout for WWE, as well as wearing several other hats as he was considered to be Triple H’s right-hand man while running NXT creative.
