Shawn Michaels on tribalism in wrestling: There has been so much combativeness, I’m not looking to pick a fight with anybody

WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels appeared on Busted Open Radio to promote tomorrow night’s NXT Halloween Havoc show.

Host Dave Lagreca said that it’s silly that fans pick sides between wrestling companies and he didn’t see this vitriol among the fans when he grew up watching wrestling.

Michaels talked about how excited he is about the card and the brand overall and he talked about wanting everyone to have fun and not be combative. Michaels said, “I just feel like…I grew up and I was a part of this when it was just fun. Nobody was trying to prove anything. We were just trying to go out there and put on the best performance, the best show and have it be fun and enjoyable. For me, it just seems like there has been so much combativeness.”

Michaels continued, “This job and all the pressure that comes with being successful in this job, that will come. That’s for the main roster and headlining WrestleMania and stuff like that. But here in NXT, this is the part we want everybody to enjoy and not just the talent but even the people watching us and the people working around the wrestling community. That’s why I wanted to be able to open up this relationship between all of us here in the wrestling community. At least for me, I’m not looking to pick a fight with anybody. I just wanna go back to the wrestling business that I grew up watching, that I felt like I was a part of in the 90s and early 2000s, and just go back to having some fun and entertainment.”

Michaels also said that Halloween Havoc is being seen as a “rebirth” for NXT and he believes the event will be more associated with NXT in the future. You can listen to the entire interview on the Busted Open Radio app.
