Potential spoiler: Interesting name to be backstage at Friday’s WWE SmackDown

WWE is bringing in an interesting name for Friday’s SmackDown event. Pwinsider.com reported today that NXT commentator Wade Barrett is slated to be at the show.

As of this writing, there is no word yet on his potential role on the show.

Barrett was a wrestler with WWE from 2006-2016. He was the winner of the first season of the NXT TV series, became the leader of The Nexus, and is a five-time Intercontinental Champion. His last match was on April 4, 2016, edition of WWE Monday Night Raw.

Since returning to WWE in August 2020, he has been a commentator for NXT. Although Barrett is happy with his current job as the WWE NXT color commentator, he isn’t ruling out an in-ring return. In related news, click here for a spoiler on a faction set to debut on Friday’s SmackDown.

(UPDATE: Barrett will join the SmackDown commentary team)
