When Saraya (former WWE star Paige) arrived in AEW on Wednesday night at the Dynamite: Grand Slam event, many fans wondered what type of role she will be used in by the promotion.
Her arrival happened following the fatal 4-way match that saw Interim Women’s Champion Toni Storm retain her title over Britt Bake, Serena Deeb, and Athena as she made the save Athena and Storm, who were attacked by Baker, Jamie Hayter, and Rebel.
Saraya was saying this was her house. Baker noted in various interviews in the past that Saraya is one of her dream opponents. Once this angle happened, it seemed that AEW started a feud between Saraya and Baker here.
Just like when she was in WWE, no one was allowed to touch Saraya in her AEW debut, and she wasn’t allowed to get physical with anyone in the ring.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “she had not been cleared as of very recently, which would explain not touching anyone, but [she] would like to be cleared.”
Saraya hasn’t wrestled since 2017 due to spinal stenosis, which is why she hasn’t been cleared to wrestle. However, the likes of Edge and Sting were able to get medically cleared years after being told they couldn’t wrestle because of spinal stenosis.
Saraya is refereeing for her family’s WAW promotion in a few weeks.
