Backstage news on whether AEW rankings have been scrapped

The AEW rankings have been an important thing for the promotion as it’s referred to in storylines when it makes storyline sense to do so and used to build up title contenders.

The system also gives AEW a more sports-based feel and shows that wins and losses do matter, which is something that fans felt was lacking in WWE under the creative vision of Vince McMahon.

However, it can be complicated to have a ranking system when some stars wrestle so often on weekly programming – Dark, Dark Elevation, Dynamite and Rampage.

The rankings haven’t been updated on AEW’s website since August 31st, leading to some fans believing the rankings are done. Dave Meltzer was asked whether they even exist on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

“They’re not dead, but they have been toned down, but they’re not dead. There was a decision not to emphasize them as much on television, but they can always go back to doing so.”
