Finn Balor explains why he didn’t go to WWE NXT UK in 2021

Finn Balor is again in a top position on the main roster in WWE as part of The Judgment Day faction with Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest.

He returned to NXT in late 2019, where he had a successful run as a main event player and became the NXT Champion for a second time.

Balor originally wanted to go to WWE NXT UK after wrapping up his latest run in NXT last year. However, WWE nixed that because of various changes that would have to be made to his contract if he went to the UK. He just returned to SmackDown.

While speaking with Ryan Satin on Out of Character, Balor detailed the situation.

“I wasn’t super excited about the idea of returning to the main roster. I felt there was potential for me to perform in NXT UK and work with those guys and that was something I was super interested in. I pitched the idea to Hunter [Triple H] at the time. They were interested in it, but they were going to have to renegotiate my contract all because of budget restrictions. It was going to prove too difficult and maybe wasn’t a smart move career-wise at this age. I’ve become very aware of that and there might be a clock starting to tick right now.”

Balor noted that he’s more aware of that now than he was five years ago, so he thought he needed to have a good run on the main roster, and WWE pitched the idea for a feud with Roman Reigns. He called it a no-brainer of a decision.”
