If Vince McMahon was still in power, there’s a good chance that he might not be pushed as a top guy.
WrestleVotes reported today that after Gunther appeared on the 7/4 episode of Monday Night Raw, those in power (McMahon, at the time) soured on him for some reason and there were plans to bury him on TV.
On the 7/4 episode of Raw, R-Truth made his way out to the ring for an Independence Day skit. Gunther interrupted and then beat Truth in a match. There didn’t seem to be anything wrong with Gunther’s performance but the powers that be in WWE at the time apparently saw things differently.
WrestleVotes tweet states the following:
“Following his appearance on RAW on 7/4, those in power at the time really soured on Gunther for whatever ridiculous reason. To the point where a burial on TV was coming. Just a month later and quite the difference…”
Gunther is now being presented as a top-tier star. Last night on SmackDown, they pushed the Intercontinental Title as a title that should be respected and Gunther’s IC Title match against Shinsuke Nakamura was saved for the main event spot on the show.
