AEW President Tony Khan has confirmed Santana suffered an injury in the Blood & Guts match last Wednesday night on Dynamite.
The left knee injury happened during a spot with Daniel Garcia just minutes after he entered the double cage. It was a non-contact injury.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio today, Khan didn’t provide details on the severity or a timetable for Santana’s return. However, he did say, “it could be a relatively long injury.”
Khan talked to Santana after the match and said that the company will stand by him and support him through his recovery because he feels it “is the right thing to do.”
Santana commented publicly on Monday for the first time since sustaining the injury by simply saying, “thank you.”
Santana and Ortiz made their AEW in-ring debut when they teamed with Chris Jericho against Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks on the premiere episode of Dynamite in 2019. Although he’s been used as a tag team star in AEW, he has ventured into singles action on the indies with matches in Terminus and Warrior Wrestling this year.
Santana previously suffered a stage two tear in his MCL in May 2019 while in Impact Wrestling that kept him out a few weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery.
