Sunday’s AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view event at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY, was noteworthy and featured several big matches.
This year’s event featured AEW World Heavyweight Champion Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay in the main event, with Strickland going over to retain. AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm, retaining over Mina Shirakawa, and AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, beating NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer in a title match, were also featured.
A new champion was crowned in a ladder match for the vacant TNT Championship after Adam Copeland broke his leg after jumping off a steel cage at Double or Nothing and saw Jack Perry go over to win the title. However, there was an injury during the bout.
Lio Rush is sidelined with an injury. As a result, Beyond Wrestling is pulling Rush from the promotion’s July 4 show. Check out their statement below:
“BREAKING: Lio Rush suffered an injury during tonight’s ladder match and will no longer be able to compete against @PerfectAaron1 at #Americanrana this Thursday, 4th of July, at White Eagle in Worcester. We are working to find a suitable replacement…”
Rush also commented on his status:
I’m not suffering, but man am I in some pain. What a night. What a match. I’ll be back for more. Thanks to everyone for riding with me on this journey through the #ForbiddenDoor 🚪🪜
