MVP and Bobby Lashley have stayed in the headlines following reports that they plan to leave WWE when their contracts are up. The expectation is that they are AEW-bound to reform The Hurt Business with Shelton Benjamin.
They may have some challenges with using the group’s name, as WWE still owns its trademark rights. It was later reported that MVP’s deal is up in mid-August, and there haven’t been any talks of a new deal. Lashley’s deal is also expected to expire around then.
MVP returned to WWE in 2020 by working the Men’s Royal Rumble Match because he wanted his son to see him wrestle in a WWE ring again. This led to him having a producer tryout before being brought back full-time as a wrestler/manager.
MVP took to his Instagram account to reflect on the run, writing:
“I came back so my baby boy could see ‘Daddy’ in a WWE ring. ‘The Royal Rumble.’ That’s all I wanted. A one off. I was ready to retire. Then, I received an offer to become a producer. The pandemic hit. I became a producer AND a commentator for Main Event. Next, they asked me to put the boots on and help out with TV during the ‘PC Era’. One episode of RAW, ‘MVP’ was in NINE segments! Heyman agreed to put me and Roberto together. I signed a full time talent contract. And then we made history. What a ride!!!!”
MVP previously worked for WWE from 2005-2010, where he was a two-time United States Champion and one-time Tag Team Champion.
