After making a name for himself in EVOLVE, Swerve Strickland was put on everyone’s radar in WWE before he was let go due to budget cuts. He has since become one of AEW’s biggest stars and is now getting big bucks because of it.
Strickland signed with AEW in 2022, becoming a Tag Team Champion that same year. In 2023, he broke out with a singles run, getting over with the fans. Strickland became World Heavyweight Champion earlier this year before dropping it to Bryan Danielson at All In.
AEW announced during the All In Zero Hour pre-show that he had signed a new deal with the promotion. Fightful Select reports that Strickland’s previous deal, signed in 2022, was set to run through next March. However, both sides felt he had outgrown the deal terms with his recent rise. AEW wanted to tie him down and proposed a new deal to him.
Per the report, Swerve is believed to have signed a multi-year deal that will see him remain in the promotion until at least 2028. A source in AEW noted that it is considered one of the biggest contracts in the company’s history.
