Jon Moxley’s New AEW Gimmick Inspired By Cult Classic Film

Jon Moxley has everyone talking following his return on AEW Dynamite this week after being away since Forbidden Door, where he cut a promo in the ring with Tony Schiavone.

The former AEW World Heavyweight champion called for a conversation with Darby Allin before looking at Schiavone and giving him a cryptic message that has fans buzzing and seemingly directed at AEW President Tony Khan.

Moxley said, “I’m gonna tell you something. I want you to listen to me. It’s gonna take some time for everybody to wrap their brains around this, but we’re gonna start right now, okay? Listen to me. This is not your company anymore.” Moxley walked out of the ring with fans speculating that he could be referring to Shane McMahon, who met with Khan several weeks ago at an airport near Dallas.

Later in the show, Moxley was seen with Marina Shafir. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez reported the gimmick that Moxley is now portraying is inspired by “Romper Stomper.”

Alvarez stated, “I actually know the movie he watched…..Romper Stomper, Australian cult classic, 1992. He was playing Russell Crowe in what he was doing. I’m not making this up. That’s a scoop for ya.”

This 1992 cult classic movie is about the downfall of a neo-Nazi group in Melbourne, Australia, with Russell Crowe in the role of Hando, the group’s leader. This was the breakout film in his Hollywood career.

As seen below in the trailer, there is a scene where Hando tells someone, “I’m gonna tell you something. I want you to listen to me, okay? This is not your country.”
