Bryan Danielson Specifically Wanted To Lose AEW World Title To Jon Moxley

Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley for the AEW World Heavyweight Title headlined the AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view event from the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA, on Saturday night, where Danielson dropped the title to Moxley when he was choked out.

As a result, Danielson will have to retire from full-time wrestling per the stipulation. However, after he undergoes expected neck surgery, he plans to wrestle part-time. Post-match, Moxley was going to put a plastic bag over Danielson, but Wheeler Yuta and Darby Allin made the save. Yuta laid out with Allin with a running knee before Yuta put the bag over Danielson’s head, and Danielson was stretchered out of the arena.

Fightful Select reports that Danielson wanted to lose to Moxley to end that run. Despite being banged up, Danielson was cleared to compete in regular matches along his road to full-time retirement.

Danielson’s comments in recent interviews about his health were said to be true, and he thought he shouldn’t do some of his matches leading up to the WrestleDream PPV.  Danielson has legitimately been without a talent contract for several months, effectively a free agent without additional obligations.

However, Danielson stated that he doesn’t see himself returning to WWE. Danielson’s match at AEW All In, including the World Title match, had been planned since earlier this year.
