Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is expected to have a big hit on his hands when Disney’s “Moana 2” animated film is released.
Moana 2 is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 27, 2024. The Rock is also working on a live-action adaptation of “Moana” in production with a July 2026 release. Both movies follow the smashing success of “Moana” in 2016.
It’s directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. Auli‘i Cravalho and Rock star as Moana and Maui.
Deadline reports that the movie is looking to make over $100 million in its opening week, with $75M—$82M of that during its Friday-Sunday portion. The first film grossed $687.2 million worldwide.

It stars returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moni, Kele and Loto.
The plot notes, “Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers.
