Layla El Reveals Which Current WWE Star Came Up With The LayCool Name

Layla El, former WWE Women’s Champion and one-half of the iconic duo LayCool, recently sat down for an interview on the “No Name Wrestling” podcast. She opened up about a variety of topics, including her thoughts on the current WWE women’s division, a potential return to the ring, and her upcoming projects outside of wrestling. Layla provided candid insights into her time in WWE, sharing her perspective on the evolution of women’s wrestling and the challenges she faced during her career.

Layla on which women from her era would thrive today in WWE:

“Michelle McCool, Melina, for sure. There was one pay per view, I remember they had such a great match, they actually got, like, kind of told off that they had too good of a match. Also, Candice and Victoria. To be honest, I think any woman in that division when I was there, if they were given the opportunity that women are given right now. Everybody worked hard. AJ, I mean, even the Bellas. Everybody would have thrived.”

If she would make a return with Michelle McCool:

“Now there is. Before, absolutely 100% No. I was not open to anything. I wanted a break. I wanted to get away. But now, absolutely. Before I get too old and I can’t come back and do anything, yeah, I would honestly come back to do a LayCool reunion. If that is possible, and if that’s something that could happen, why not?”

On how the women’s division was viewed when she was wrestling in WWE:

“They didn’t care about the Women’s Division. I actually remember talking to a writer, and they were like, ‘We don’t care about the girls.’”

On CM Punk coming up with the LayCool name:

“CM Punk was actually the one who helped us come up with the name. We were trying to figure out a name. He was the one who wrote down and said, ‘Do this’, and we were like, ‘Yea, we love that. Let’s do that.’”

On who she would like to wrestle that is currently on the WWE roster:

“I love watching Chelsea Green and Piper Niven. They’re great. I think that would work. I think we could possibly have a small run with them. Also, Tiffany Stratton. I think she’s going to be a huge star. Her look, her gear, but her in-ring skill, I was like, whoa. Jade would be amazing too. I think she is going to be a huge star.”

On starting her own podcast:

“By January, yeah, I’m working on stuff that I’m doing, but I am going to do a podcast which I’m going to mostly focus on the Diva Era, because I feel like a lot of people have just been so negative about it, stuff like that. So I’d like to start my podcast about it. Let’s talk about the Diva Era. Let’s talk about all the good things, the bad things, the botches, the stuff that happened backstage. I’d like to have some of the past Divas on there with me. I am going to have a YouTube channel. Yes, I will have a subscription based platform on the internet where you guys can see some of my life and what I’ve been up to, and what I’m up to now, and what the future holds for me.”

If she would return for the Royal Rumble:

“I was asked to come back in 2021, but unfortunately at that time, I just couldn’t do it, but if there is an offer there, yea, I will come back. I will do it. I’ve got to do it before I get too old. I would like to relive, just have a moment again, of what my past life was.”
