Former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree has announced he’s seeking help for substance abuse.
In a candid video posted on his “Cafe de Rene” YouTube channel, Dupree acknowledged being inebriated during his previous stream. He attributed his state to mixing alcohol with benzodiazepines, medication prescribed to manage anxiety he’s experienced since his father’s passing.
Dupree said, “First and foremost, I’d like to apologize to everyone for my condition last night during the return of Cafe de Rene.”
Dupree talked about plans to move his show into a studio with cameras and lighting. He added, “During the meeting, we had a few adult beverages. Unfortunately, ever since my father passed away over a year ago, I’ve been suffering from a lot of anxiety issues. I’ve been prescribed benzodiazepine, to take care of my anxiety issues. For anybody that knows, mixing alcohol with benzos is a very bad thing to do. Thus resulting in my inebriated state last night…I want to apologize to everybody. I want to apologize to Ted Hart, I just want to thank everybody for the support…”
Dupree says he’s amazed at how many fellow wrestlers called to check on him and it made him feel good to know that people care.
“The power of addiction is cunning, baffling and powerful. When you think you have it under control, that’s when you should be worrying the most. Once you have that disease and addiction and it has a hold of you, it won’t let go. I made the decision to start going to meetings again. Narcotics anonymous. I wanna thank all the fans who support me through this. I’m gonna persevere, it’s just a bump in the road. Thank you guys so much. I apologize again from the bottom of my heart for my behavior and unprofessionalism last night.”
