John Cena Is Among The Internal Front Runners To Win This Year’s WWE Royal Rumble

John Cena kicked off his retirement tour during an appearance on Monday night’s premiere episode of WWE Raw on Netflix. This is where he declared that not only would he be entering the Royal Rumble Match, where the winner gets the pick of either challenging for the World Heavyweight Title, currently held by GUNTHER, or the Undisputed WWE Championship, held by Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania, but that he would win the bout.

If he can win a World Title in WWE again, then he will break the record for most title reigns of 16. It’s a record he is tied for with Ric Flair. As previously reported, WWE is planning Cena vs. Rhodes for WrestleMania 41.

While WWE is planning the match, it doesn’t mean it’s a lock that Cena will win the Royal Rumble to get to the Rhodes bout. WWE usually has an Elimination Chamber match at the themed PLE, where the bout winner will challenge for the title that the Royal Rumble winner isn’t challenging for at Mania. That is an option for the company, considering Cena brought up his own losing streak when competing in big matches.

On a recent edition of SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Q&A, WrestleVotes noted that Cena is seen within the company at the top of the list of the names to win this year’s Royal Rumble Match.

“Yeah, especially after that promo last night [when asked if he thinks Cena is winning the Royal Rumble.] I think everybody in attendance live gave him the reaction that he was looking for, and they want to see number 17. So, you know, we had heard that he was one of the leaders in the clubhouse prior to last night. And I think last night only solidified that he’s probably choice 1 or 1A, so yeah, I’d say it looks good at this point.”
