Backstage News On John Cena’s Absence From WWE TV

John Cena kicked off his WWE retirement tour on January 6th, which served as the Raw on Netflix premiere episode. This is where he declared that not only would he be competing in the Royal Rumble, but he vowed to win it as he continues to pursue breaking the record of most World Title reigns.

Cena hasn’t been seen on WWE television since then. This has caused fans to speculate as to why.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Cena was filming the movie “Matchbox” this month. This caused him to miss WWE TV up to this point.

This action-adventure comedy film is directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper, based on the toy brand that has the same name. It stars Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, Teyonah Parris, and Randeep Hooda.
