Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens in a Ladder Match took place at the WWE Royal Rumble Premium Live Event on Saturday night from Indianapolis, IN at Lucas Oil Stadium with Rhodes going over.
The end of the bout saw Owens with a low blow before Rhodes hit an Alabama slam off the announce table through a ladder. He proceeded to climb the ladder and got the titles down.
There’s plenty of history between the two stars. At Bash in Berlin, Rhodes retained the title against Owens. He went back into a program with Owens at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December and went over.
WWE Stats noted on Twitter that following this loss, Owens joins the rare club of stars who have challenged for the WWE Title over 10 times without winning it. He joins the likes of Don Murraco and Dolph Ziggler.
Following his match at #RoyalRumble, @FightOwensFight has joined the dubious club of Superstars who have challenged for the #WWETitle 10+ times without ever winning the @WWE's flagship championship.
