Rey Fenix Was Among The Names AEW Had Discussed Releasing At One Point

AEW released several wrestlers over the last few days for various reasons, including Ricky Starks, Malakai Black, Miro, and Bear Boulder.

For Boulder, his release was after being arrested for domestic battery, while Black’s deal came due, and Miro and Starks wanted out. Rey Fenix is one name who does want out, but AEW added time to his existing deal due to time missed with injury.

The belief is the time added is close to a year, and once that time passes, then he will reunite with Penta El Zero M as Lucha Bros in WWE. On the NXT post-show Tuesday night, Sean Ross Sapp noted that Fenix had been considered part of the releases, but that didn’t end up happening.

“I had heard Friday that AEW releases were either happening or coming. At that moment, I thought it was just the Bear Boulder situation, which they fortunately very quickly took care of. I had heard for a while that within AEW, they had at least considered releasing or letting contracts lapse on a few talent that were not happy and wanted to go elsewhere. At one point, they considered Rey Fenix. They didn’t end up doing that.”
