Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had a massive hit on his hands with Disney’s “Moana 2” animated film. The movie came out in the United States on November 27, 2024, and did a billion dollars at the box office.
The Rock is also working on a live-action adaptation of “Moana” in production with a July 2026 release. Both movies follow the smashing success of “Moana” in 2016.
It’s directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. Auli‘i Cravalho and Rock star as Moana and Maui. It stars returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moni, Kele and Loto.
It was revealed today by Variety that the movie will be available to stream on Disney+ on March 12.
