Buddy Matthews is dealing with an injury after working the recent AEW Grand Slam: Australia event.
The event saw an AEW Continental Championship bout between Matthews and Kazuchika Okada. Matthews appeared to hurt his ankle during his entrance but went forward with the bout.
Okada went over to retain his title. After the show, Matthews stated in a now-deleted tweet that he wouldn’t have “destroyed his ankle” if he didn’t have to work in AEW’s small ring. Rhea Ripley later shared photos of the couple while on their honeymoon, and in one of the photos, Matthews is seen using one crutch.
Ripley captioned the post, which alludes to Matthews rolling his ankle, “Ain’t no Roly-Poly ankles gonna keep us down! Let the honeymoon commence!” As seen below, Matthews shared a photo on his Instagram Stories showing him in a walking boot.
