WWE is anticipating the arrival of an AEW star who is still under contract with the rival promotion, and it seems likely to stay that way for a while.
Rey Fenix does want out, but AEW added time to his existing deal due to time missed with the injury. Sean Ross Sapp previously noted that Fenix had been considered part of the February AEW releases, but that didn’t end up happening.
The time added is believed to be close to a year. Once that time passes, he will reunite with Penta El Zero M as Lucha Bros in WWE.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE has started to make plans for Fenix. Meltzer wrote, “They are making plans for Rey Fenix, although there has been no confirmation Fenix has been released from his AEW contract.”
For now, Fenix is still waiting for his AEW deal to expire.
