AEW’s Dustin Rhodes hopes to recreate a match he was part of while in WWE.
The “Hollywood Backlot Brawl” occurred at WrestleMania XII on March 31, 1996, in Anaheim, California. It featured “Rowdy” Roddy Piper against Goldust. It was one of the earlier cinematic matches in pro wrestling history.
The match incorporated elements that reflected the O.J. Simpson car chase, as the first part was filmed in a backlot before Dustin drove off and Piper chased him. It eventually carried out to the ring.
Rhodes will be in town for Sunday’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view event in Los Angeles. In a post on X, Rhodes mentioned he would love to do a new version of the match.
He wrote, “I so desperately want to do another Hollywood backlot brawl ish match again. Maybe we at @AEW can come up with something cool here.”
