Jim Ross Thinks John Cena’s 17th WWE Title Reign Is ‘Just Another Number,’ More Interested In His Exit

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross shared his thoughts on John Cena recently capturing his record-breaking 17th world championship during the latest episode of his “Grilling JR” podcast. While acknowledging the milestone, Ross downplayed the significance of the number itself, focusing instead on Cena’s character and future.

“It’s just another number, to be honest with you,” Ross stated. “I have a lot of respect for John. John was playing Center at Springfield College in Massachusetts when we found him, signed him, trained him, and he’s always been a good friend and done a great job. He’s been a great contributor to the pro wrestling space, as we like to say. John’s a classic guy. He’s very much devoted and valued as a top commodity. I’m not big on all the numbers. It’s just one of those situations where it is what it is, but I have a lot of respect for John.”

Ross, who was instrumental in signing Cena to his first WWE contract, expressed more intrigue about Cena’s eventual departure from the ring than the title count. “It’s interesting to see the landscape and how he’s structuring his exit, and I think that’s important. He’s got a strategy, and we’ll see how that all works out going forward.”
