Charlotte Flair believes that former UFC Champion and WWE star Ronda Rousey deserves more credit for paving the way for women to main event WrestleMania. In a new essay for The Players’ Tribune, Flair spoke candidly about Rousey’s impact on the industry.
“Ronda Being A Main-Event Draw In UFC Changed Everything”
Flair explained that while many factors contributed to the “Women’s Revolution” in WWE, Rousey’s star power as a main event draw in the UFC was a game-changer for how WWE viewed its female talent.
“I don’t think Ronda gets enough credit for WWE putting women in the main event. A lot of things about the women’s revolution might be true, but this is definitely true: Ronda being a main-event draw in UFC changed everything. I know that for a fact,” Flair wrote.
She emphasized that Rousey’s arrival shifted the perception of what was possible for women in WWE. “But in terms of WWE looking at women as potentially WrestleMania level main-eventers, you can trust me on this 100%: There’s before Ronda Rousey….. and then there’s after. And I wish people would talk about that more and give Ronda her due.”
Flair herself was part of that history-making moment, as she, Rousey, and Becky Lynch competed in the first-ever women’s main event at WrestleMania 35. While Rousey is no longer with WWE and is focusing on her upcoming biopic from Netflix, Charlotte Flair is set to compete at the upcoming Evolution 2 premium live event.
