WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather (real name Charles Wright) recently stunned the wrestling world with a photo posted to his social accounts, showcasing his incredible physique at 64 years old. The post, which shows a jacked and healthy Wright, was accompanied by a simple, motivational caption: “Grind never stops.” (Scroll down on this page to see the photo).
A Remarkable Recovery
The photo is made all the more impressive by the fact that Wright was involved in a serious vehicle accident just a few weeks ago. Last month, he was in a significant car wreck that saw his vehicle completely overturned. He and the driver were able to walk away without injuries.
A Career of Characters
While best known as the fun-loving Godfather, a character synonymous with the Attitude Era, Charles Wright had one of the most varied careers in WWE history. He first gained notoriety as the spooky, supernatural voodoo priest Papa Shango. He later transformed into the stoic martial artist Kama, The Supreme Fighting Machine, and became a member of the Nation of Domination alongside The Rock and Faarooq. He would later tweak this character to become Kama Mustafa before finally finding his most famous persona.
As The Godfather, he became one of the most popular characters of the late 1990s. Flanked by his “Ho Train,” his “Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy” catchphrase and offer to let his opponents “get on board” instead of fighting made him a weekly highlight on Monday Night Raw.
Since his full-time wrestling career ended, Charles Wright has made sporadic appearances for WWE, often showing up for reunion shows and participating in the Royal Rumble match. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016 by his real-life friends, John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Ron Simmons.
