A new report has clarified recent speculation about Shayna Baszler’s status with WWE. Despite being listed as a producer for a recent match on NXT, Dave Meltzer has reported that the former multi-time champion has not taken a permanent backstage job with the company.
Producing Matches in NXT
The story gained traction this week when it was noted that Baszler was credited as the producer for the Kelani Jordan vs. Lainey Reid match on Tuesday’s episode of NXT. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer confirmed that Baszler has been helping out but has not signed on as a full-time agent.
“The story on Shayna Baszler is this: she’s got another month. I think the date is August 2 when her 90 days is up, so she can’t wrestle anywhere until August 2. It came out that she was one of the agents for, I believe, the Kelani Jordan match, and the story was made out to be bigger than it was. She has been at NXT tapings. She has agented other matches, but this is the first one to come out. It’s not like she’s taken a job as an agent. She is doing it since she’s around and they’ve asked her.”
With her legitimate fighting background and dominant run as NXT Women’s Champion, Baszler is expected to be someone who would get a look from several promotions and could easily find work as a free agent.
