A new report from PWInsider suggests that a major WWE Superstar may be making a surprise appearance at this weekend’s TNA Wrestling Slammiversary pay-per-view. The speculation has been fueled by a recent tease from TNA President Carlos Silva, who described the upcoming event as being “Phenomenal.”

AJ Styles At The Center Of Speculation
The WWE Superstar at the center of the speculation is “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. The PWInsider report notes that Silva’s specific choice of words “has had fans buzzing that perhaps AJ Styles, TNA’s first homegrown star, now with WWE, will finally return to TNA.” The current TNA World Champion, Trick Williams of WWE NXT, also added to the speculation when he recently named Styles as the main roster WWE star he would most like to face.
While TNA sources would not confirm an appearance by Styles, the report states that information has been gathered from within WWE. “In asking around among WWE sources, we can confirm there has absolutely been talk that Styles will be making an appearance this weekend,” the report reads. The timing of Silva’s tease is noted as perfect “especially if TNA wanted last minute ticket sales for the UBS Arena.”
Prodigal Son To Return Home?
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson concluded with his own opinion on the matter, stating, “if you are hoping to see the prodigal son finally return home, I believe you will be happy if you order or attend Slammiversary.” Should Styles appear, it would be his first time in a TNA ring since May 2013. He is one of the most decorated champions in the promotion’s history, having held the NWA, TNA, and X-Division Championships.
AJ Styles is currently feuding with Dominik Mysterio on WWE Raw, and the two are scheduled to face each other at WWE SummerSlam. TNA Slammiversary is scheduled for this Saturday, July 20, from the UBS Arena in Long Island, NY, and will be headlined by TNA World Champion Trick Williams defending his title against Joe Hendry and Mike Santana in a three-way match.
