Media personality Peter Rosenberg has publicly criticized WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg for recent comments Goldberg made regarding his retirement sendoff. In a video posted to his social media, Rosenberg responded to Goldberg’s appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, where the former World Champion expressed unhappiness that his post-match speech was cut off at the end of the Saturday Night’s Main Event broadcast on NBC.
Rosenberg, who hosts WWE’s Premium Live Event kickoff shows, did not hold back in his assessment of the situation. “I cannot believe the complaints about his send off,” Rosenberg stated. “Have you guys ever noticed that the people who are the most overbooked, the most over celebrated are always the ones who complain?”
Criticism of The Match and Sendoff
Rosenberg argued that Goldberg received more than he was entitled to in his match against the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther. “The man got a 15-minute match. It should have been a squash let’s be honest,” Rosenberg said. “He should have gotten Goldberg’ed. He should have been speared and taken out. The man’s pushing 60 years old, hasn’t looked good in the ring, some would say, ever, but certainly not in the last few years.”
He then addressed Goldberg’s specific complaint about his microphone being cut off, explaining it as a simple reality of network television. “He still got in a nice little moment and got to be celebrated,” Rosenberg continued. “First of all, people watch the product. NBC goes when the show ends, every single time. They do not wait. NBC. This is network TV. It’s not USA, it’s not Netflix. It’s NBC. They go when they go.”
A Better Sendoff Than Most
Rosenberg contrasted Goldberg’s televised farewell with how many other wrestlers are released from the company. “Do you know how many people better than Goldberg, their send off was ‘we wish them the best in their future endeavors?'” he asked. “Did this guy get to stand in the ring on national television? Have a send off? You should be thanking your lucky stars for the money you’ve made and the appreciation you’ve gotten, which many don’t even feel is fully deserved. To complain, I’m so disappointed.”
The segment in question took place this past Saturday, July 12, after Goldberg was defeated by Gunther in the main event of Saturday Night’s Main Event. Following the match, Goldberg was given a microphone to address the crowd in what was presented as his retirement moment. While the live broadcast on NBC ended before his speech was finished, WWE later posted the full, uninterrupted speech on its official social media platforms.
I respect Goldberg and he seems like a decent man but WTF was he thinking man? He has been collecting check after check against top guys and putting on mediocre matches … and gets a hell of a send off. And then complains?? I'm lost pic.twitter.com/UCUlIipdQe
