Randy Orton To Break All-Time WWE SummerSlam Record

When “The Viper” Randy Orton steps into the ring at SummerSlam next month, he will officially make history. By competing at the event, Orton will set a new record for the most matches ever at “The Biggest Party of the Summer.”

Orton To Set New SummerSlam Record

Orton’s scheduled tag team match will be his 17th match in SummerSlam history. This will break the all-time record of 16 matches, which he currently shares with WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker. Orton’s first appearance at the event was in 2003.

A Legendary History At ‘The Biggest Party Of The Summer’

Over the past two decades, Orton has created many memorable moments at SummerSlam. His journey began in 2003 when he was a part of the Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship, a title he would win one year later by defeating Chris Benoit at SummerSlam 2004. Throughout the years, he has faced a who’s who of icons, including The Undertaker in 2005 and Hulk Hogan in 2006. Orton has been a fixture in the main event scene, battling John Cena for the WWE Championship in both 2007 and 2009, and challenging Sheamus for the title in 2010.

His history at the event also includes a World Heavyweight Championship match against Christian in 2011 and his infamous Money in the Bank cash-in on Daniel Bryan in 2013. In subsequent years, Orton has battled a new generation of stars like Roman Reigns in 2014 and had memorable encounters with Sheamus in 2015 and Brock Lesnar in 2016. His more recent SummerSlam appearances include a match against Rusev in 2017, WWE Championship matches against Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre in 2019 and 2020, and a Raw Tag Team Championship victory with Matt Riddle in 2021.
